Any word when this is coming to DVD ?

Done ! ( Image )
To my knowledge this isn't even available on DVD yet and if it were it would probably be the Zoetrope version that the Coppola's released after editing down and rescoring (i.e., by Carmine Cappola) the first restoration completed by Kevin Brownlow. Since then Kevin has done two additional restorations of Gance's masterpiece, the second to "undo" the editing of Copolla's released version, restoring footage, and the third to accomodate higher quality footage from a recently discovered fine grain 35mm print that was, miraculously, found in excellent condition. This restoration extended the films length to over 5 hours which is still some 30 minutes shorter than the original 1927 release version. Unfortunately, Brownlow's most complete restoration if viewed at all can only be seen in theaters (i.e., most likely in Europe or Canada) due to Coppola's invoking non-competition clauses to prevent this great work from being released in any other restoration than the Zoetrope version in the U.S.That's pretty much how things were in June of 2000; if there's newer information I've overlooked please elaborate.

As I wrote before,( why can you read )
I have the DVD in my hands,it is a IMAGE entertainment product.
It is the same short version I saw ( or very near)
117minutes.
Okay, so maybe world history isn't your strong suit, but Napoleon at 117 minutes!? Even Coppola's Zoetrope release wasn't that much of a shortened/bastardized version of Gance's masterwork.Naw, I think you're confusing Napoleon with the '36 Gance film about the life of Beethoven poorly transfered by Image Entertainment a couple of years ago. I'll include the link so that everyone will be aware we are discussing different movies.
I was mentally ready for Beethoven !
My fault.
And no my history knowledge is not THAT bad.
Sorry about the teasing. :o)Cheers,

go to search-Abel Ganz / video-DVD
What's the scoop on it, Patrick ? Could you give me, and others, a mini-review of it ? Thanks !
Well, I will wait to have the complete version to make a personal point of view...of course this film is a must. ( in any version*)You can read all the review you want on....
* The power of the vision of Abel Ganz must have been the same that drove Napoleon and Beethoven......www.imbd.com
