his character in slingblade was good, ok, great, but where the hell did he find this guy?did he really cover his entire body with motor oil and then roll around in the dust?
I wasn't as scared of the sadistic bank robber in Resevoir Dogs--the guy who cut off the cop's ear then doused him with gasoline while dancing to..."stuck in the middle with you"...that was violent, but it was a kind of sociopathology you could understand.
there's just something about Billy Bob in the dessert sun, surrounded by a wasteland--empty husks baking under a relentless inferno--a glare so intense it seemed to glaze everything--but especially Billy Bob-- covered with grease, I mean, basted in it, ... and the slow realization the protagonist gets that this guy isn't stupid: he's sick, like a tube vinyl and horns kinda sick, and you are caught-up in it, something bad, something awfull, something you can't run from, somekind of sick game that you dare not not play out.
i think i was an hour into the film before i realized who it was.
I'll watch anything Billy Bob does. And another thing...what's the deal with lips on his wife? "inflate to 85 psi"?
Follow Ups:
.
well i can't believe BBT is in that...he must have been well paid...now you see what you've done...I'm going to have to watch it just to see what he's doing there--you horrible person you.
there have been some pretty horrible films with fine actors...remember the Joker in Batman?
what about Mumbles in Dick Tracy?
hey, here's an idea: great actors playing cameos in horrible films
what was that one Brando was in playing "the Godfather"...he had the Mona Lisa in his living room...horrible film..what was it? the freshman or something like that..?
LOL.If it's any consolation, I read an interview with BBT, where he saidhe was well paid for A... but he would never make another film like that again.
cheerio
it's still a fine film and highly recommended. BBT as Darrell was totally creepy and malevolent and I too was astonished when I learned who played him. It's also the only film I can stand J-Lo in.
Lynch's best film was made by Robert Rodriguez. It's called Roadracers :) Billy Bob is on Lost Highway Records, though.
