I was wondering if anyone remembers a certain movie that came out around the mid to early 70's. I don't remember the name of it, but I do remember some weird parts. From what I remember, it has something to do with a mother and her demented son. Her son and some other youths capture a cat and cut it's beating heart out as some kind of sacrifice.
Also, this son enjoys spying on his mother and her boyfriend through a peephole inside his room. The mother and the boyfriend find out and punish him from what I can remember.
I think this was filmed in some kind of a grayish coastal town.
Does any of this ring a bell? Thanks for any help!

Follow Ups:
Well, I just got finished with the movie. Criss crisopherson did real well with this one. He has that Clint eastwood type personality where he either does great or seems awkward with his speech and the flow of things. He got better as the movie went on, and the ending was a bummer. Its kids like that, that end up making main stream news in our world today, so being made in 76 seems to be of things to come back then, and it appears to be a good prediction. Who's next on the dissection list? I think I have an idea. -------------
The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea (1976).
Thanks for the name of the film! I saw it when it first came out near the age of 9 and still remember those scenes. The part that really got me was the dissection of the cat and the beating heart. The psychotic gang of kids in relation to the affair seemed to be a strange mixture.
I called about 5 video stores and found the vhs and will watch it once again.
Thank you!
Bolt-
I doubt you will like it this time - it is not a good film.
but I was 21 when the film came out, so my most memorable scene was Sarah Miles getting herself off.
FLIX has been playing this title lately.

...if you are into strange mother-son relationships, and while searching for the answer to your question, you might as well enjoy another one - "Spanking the Monkey", featuring the gorgeous Alberta Watson.
as long as it doesnt have a bunch of deranged kids in it! :)
but understandable once you see Watson, as Victor mentions. ;-)
...let us not forget Stephen Frear's terrific "The Grifters", one of my favorite neo-noirs, based on the Jim Thompson novel of the same name.Spanking the Monkey aired several times on IFC recently.
I thought Grifters was good, largely due to Anjelica Huston presence. She is considerably underrated.
