This is a spectacular DVD to see on a 16x9 with Dobly Digital 5.1! The film transfer onto DVD is one of the very best I've seen for an older film. And the soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1 will blow you away. If the opening credits don't blow your mind in surround sound...you might want to see a doctor about that! :)
Follow Ups:
Superb restoration-the original negatives were in pretty bad shape, from what I've read. Some purists have griped about the use of new sound effects stems, but I think they're terrific. The new footage is actually pretty good as well-more than once I've viewed a "directors cut" with new footage and it's obvious why it ended up on the cutting room floor in the first place, but that's not the case with Superman. I particularly liked the additional fortress of solitude scenes with Brando. The supplements are excellent, too.
