***Victor, do I remember correctly that you bought the DVD of "Lost In Space"? Please say it ain't so.It IS so... sigh...
Not only that masterpieceofshit, but the Soldier too, plus few more obligatory "demo" trash pieces.
I used them several times to check the projector for its set-up and line multiplier' operation.
***Oh God, I just remembered that I bought "Armageddon" on DVD. I must be insane!
There is hope, however. I, for one, am a RECOVERING DVD'er. I have not watched one in several months (well, I did a demo for a visiting friend of mine, but that doesn't count, or does it?). As I mentioned before, we only watch the VHS rentals. As much as we do, I still feel like we are just scratching the surface. That after about 35 years. As I usually say, with sooo many great movies out there, why waste time watching trash? It is your two hours, make it good.
Like many others I sincerely hope that some day more good movies will make it to the DVD format. If for not much more than the convenience. The way it has been going so far, my hope seems to need more and more propping.
Did Armageddon have something to do with an asteroid? I think I watched part of it.
But think of it, I even have the Cafe Blues CD....
I've taken the twelve steps, and returned my Toshiba SD-3109 to Bryn Mawr Stereo. I bought it on impulse when they refused to sell me a satalite dish (another story), thinking it would make a decent CD player too. Then I found out there was nothing worth watching on DVD, let alone something worth buying. To make things worse, the sound of CD's on this thing is unbearable. So I put my JVC XL-Z1050 back in the rack, and took the Toshiba back and got all my money back. (back, back, bacck!)Now the satalite dish. It was easy to install--took about 2 hours to mount the thing on the side of the chimney and run a phone line and pound an isolated technical ground rod and string the coax. Aligning with the satalite was so easy--I'm getting a signal strength of 94 right now. But once again, out of the hundreds of channels--everything is crap! I'm thinking of taking it back too (but the picture is fantastic!).
Victor--you are so correct. VHS is the only way for a film-lover to go. I've been sucked into this digital upgrade feeding frenzy--but I just can't get no, Satisfaction...no, no, no...say hey, hey, hey. that's what I say...
I did see "Jacob's Ladder" on the dish last night. That's a good one.
Actually, I proud to say I bought all 3 on LD!!! Action, humor, humanity, style, simultaneous thought provolking (albeit hole ridden) plots w/ character development that isn't tedious like a fartsy flick. I just wished they slowed "Lost in Space" from its MTV edited pace down to cinematic rate, but then again the movie would take on a Kostner length.
I also have all 3, but on DVD. Lost in Space really does make fine demo material for the system. And I have to admit I like Armageddon. Loved Matrix.I seem to remember a "Guily Pleasures" post in the music forum a few months back. Anyone care to chime in? I'll start.
* Batman & Robin
* Godzilla
* Last Action Hero
* Re-AnimatorAnd last but not least...
* Space Jam in DD5.1 and (ewwwwww) Pan & Scan
OK it's not a pleasure, but there was a drought of anything worth watching on DVD in July 97. You think it's bad now? HA!
Forget it, I'm just making excuses.
Smokey and the Bandit (original one)
