In Reply to: "What Women Want"..... posted by AudioHead on May 24, 2002 at 11:15:51:
Hi,
WWW is like an old lover you just ran into. Whatever problems you had with her, the first time around, melt with the pleasure of reacquaintance. Despite it's weaknesses, it's a movie i will want to watch over the years.
Follow Ups:
This movie is the embodiment of everything wrong with Hollywood, our culture, and indeed, ourselves.

Yes I could, but there are plenty of critics who are paid to do that sort of thing and I think pretty much all of them can elaborate.
are unwilling to support that condemnation with facts, opinion, reasoned argument etc.
and blithely pass off the responsiblity of doing so to other "critics" who get paid to do so. Sounds
disingenuous and downright intellectually dishonest to me. Either
put up or shut from now on! - AH P.S.- No one on this site gets
paid to review as far as I know, are you implying that you should?
If you failed to draw the same conclusions as I, upon watching this shoddy tripe, I don't see how I can help you.You have lived this long, all the while making observations and reconciling these observations with your set of beliefs and values. I don't believe anything I write will change you or your opinion of the movie nor should it. However....
In the interest of defending myself against the somewhat justifiable criticism of being a sort of hit and run poster I offer the following (I wrote by myself, with no help from a critic!!!!!!!!!):
Here is a movie targeted to a certain type of woman. It manages to be offensive, not only to that subgroup, but to women in general. The movie is totally lacking in any sort of artistic merit, and exists as a sort of marketing experiment gone very wrong. This pathetic cookie-cutter of a movie is never less than predictable and never more than the bare minimum (and sometimes not even that). Stereotypes abound and
nobody is spared the dull tip of the writers' pens. This would all be ok if any of the jokes worked. They don't. There's just no humanity to be found in this utterly calculated piece of horseshit. There you go.
You stated:## Here is a movie targeted to a certain type of woman. It manages

general ##What type of woman??? How do you know women were offended? Do
you have access to polls? You stated:

Some of course, would disagree with this type of absolutist statement,
especially in the area of actor performance. You stated:

Found myself chuckling throughout. Of course, humor is a subjective
matter, sometimes I laugh at things others donīt, sometimes vice
versa, and then sometimes we laugh together! Bwwwaaaaaaa! You stated:

īPlease donīt tell Mel and Helen there was no warmth whatsoever
in their ending kiss, might hurt their feelings to insinuate they
were merely mannequins mechanically going through the motions.P.S. - I consider WWW harmless enough, it is mean-spiritied, propaganda
films like ĻThelma and LouiseĻ, that disturb me.

Wow! That happened to a good friend of mine not long ago! He
and former flame reunited after 10 years and got married within
two weeks! -AH
He-he... late, I was gonna say something nasty, I really was, but decided to pass on it.But listen, I saw a great film last night - Doctor Dolittle. I bet you liked it too.
I love Doctor Doolittle. Rex Harrison was brilliant.
I learned that what I saw was Part 2 only. I presume the original was at least as good, but I have not seen it - I should.Interestingly enough, both films scored rather badly in viewers votes on imdb... about 4 or 5 out of ten. Tells you something about the audience, I guess, as the film is full of humor.
I love Rex Harrison.
Actually Rex did HATE the production whilst filming, as they got a lot into troubles with the animals....
This picture could have been great..too bad is was not.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Remakes, sequals, movies based on old TV shows and any combination there in, I hate. The Bradybunch movie being the exception.
