I just picked up a superb and facinating biography on Jacque Tati.I'm a little unsure about taking the plunge to pick up the Criterion DVD issues of his three major films.
Anyone out there pick them and could share their feelings about him ?
Thanks so much.

I'm totally unfamiliar with his work, other than his reputation and what I read in this good book. And it came down to a decision of getting something by Chaplin or Keaton.
Chaplin AND Keaton !...and Tati.
Thanks so much.How about "Playtime"....any comments ????
PLAYTIME is the coolest! Saw it twice in film school and I'm now looking for the DVD (if it exists). The wide framing and multi-layered approach to events in the film make it a unique comedy experience. Little stories are unfolding all over the screen. Love the slick, anal retentative guy with the pen in the dept. store. Also, has one of the longest shots of a guy walking down a long hall towards the camera I've ever seen. I remember starting to crack up when I realized nothing was going to happen...I just had to wait until this guy slowly reached the foreground.
Gotta find that film.
Rich.
Here are a couple of links discussing it and where it will tell you about the technical details...http://www.dvdjournal.com/quickreviews/p/playtime_cc.q.shtml

I love the fox fur, funeral, and tennis match gags. But Victor's choice and mine are so good you really should get both.
I picked up the Charlie Chaplin box set, with "Modern Times", "The Great Dictator", "The Gold Rush" and "City Lights". It will be interesting to compare Tati with these selections.Any more Chaplin movies I should get or is this enough ?
