This one was MY pick, so I can't blame it on my wife. Had the picture of beautiful Sophie Marceau on the cover, plus it was French... so what more would one need?
Well, how about a decent movie? This one is anything but. It is three hours of finest French merde, stupid and ridiculous. And beautiful Sophie making love with everyone, everywhere for the first hour and a half didn't help much either.
Stay away from this piece of boring trash... you can do whole lot better.
It almost made Hollywood films look good. Well, not something like the Mission Impossible, perhaps, but sub-garbage like Terms of Endearment or American Beauty - for sure.
Certainly they struggled to find an actor uglier than John Malkovich, with even less charisma... they must have searched through the whole of Europe... but they found him. Pascal Greggory is it.
Of course in this film he is surrounded by so many characters that are twisted, tortured, idiotic, that he is almost passable.
Funny enough, its director, Andrzej Zulawski, a student to none else but Andrzej Wajda, is highly regarded in some circles. They say Sophie played her best roles in his films... well, she looked completely fake in this one.
Stay away from this silliness...

  Good brief review, agree 100%!
  One possible redeaming value - for the feminists who always complain that female hudity dominates in films and elsewhere. Not here, babe, not here, as the male anatomies are quite well presented in the film.
  All the way through the credits, where an incredible close-up of... you know... is skillfully used as background.
  I think that about compensates for at least two Emmanuelle sequels.

By the way do you know the film Farrebique ? As a child I saw it...vaguely remembering it..I think it was very very good so,tomorrow ,if the Gods are on my side I will have it in my post...

  Ah, yes, she was expecting a child from Jim Lemley
  She IS very beautiful... even more so than Isabelle Adjani, although the two look quite similar.
  She is credited with a couple of good quotes:
  "I hate those kisses, you know, American kisses, with the tongues out. They're disgusting. I can't look, it's like porno!"
  "What is he, 13 or 11? Perhaps I could play his nanny." Upon hearing Leonardo DiCaprio is a big fan.
  One thing for sure, with her as Ambassador of Charm for France in East Asia the nation is much better off than with Brigitte Bardot.
  BTW - did you know Sophie's debut was in La Boum, the same film where my darling Brigitte Fossey of Forbidden Games plays the mother?
