In Reply to: The stupid Island question : you can take only one directors work with you.... posted by patricku on June 24, 2002 at 08:37:24:
In addition to his works, can I have just one another film, one of which I shall never grow tired? My Fair Lady?
Follow Ups:
Witch my fair Lady ?one or two ( I think there are even more)
As we are almost alone on this board I think we can strech...
I am not aware of others, only some TV film which I have not seen.
That was I was afraid for !There is ONE film YOU have to SEE...( I love My Fair Lady, more I can tell,I saw it uncount times..SO,to fully appreciated and fully understand it---Pygmalion---with the help of Sir B.Shaw...done,with leslie Howard ( who die at war)
and directed by Asquith ( remember Ingrid) and edited by D. Lean....But maybe you already saw it....
No, haven't seen that one. Was it good? How could it be good - it is only 96 minutes! My Fair Lady is 170, so it is twice as good!
of my Fair Lady and even more ! When you will see it you will understand ,what I try to tell you..of course it is not sophisticated as your wonderful, precious,Ladies director...not so polished...but it has the European touch, and that believe me is more than enough...Pygmalion is a stoty as old as humankind..Go,dear vic.and buy it,if not I will buy for you and make an present....
Ordered the Criterion DVD.

I agree with Patrick. "My fair lady" is fun to watch, but if we are talking about following Sir Shaw's words - "Pygmalion" is far better.
Leslie Howard gave much better performance that a year later in "Gone with the wind".
As for the initial question - I can't choose just one.
Maybe half a dozen, but not one.
