"Hardcore"...Paul Schrader is this month's featured director on ENCORE. In a nutshell..."The Searcher's" meets the porn industry. It really hit's the proverbial "mark", in all catagories...story, acting...George C. Scott, Season Hubley, and even Peter Boyle's supporting role, is spot-on here, with Boyle, at one point, evoking the original film, by calling Scott's character "Pilgrim". Priceless. Unfortunately, though it's a timeless topic, it was...and still is...too close to home, and tooooo unseemly, for any audience. It's a genuine shame."Bridget Jones Diary"....a Chick Film, that charms, and doesn't turn one off with the subtle, Ugh-ly Female Politics. Hugh Grant is even good...and that's saying alot. Very entertaining.
Follow Ups:
Agree with Hugh, once he forget his mimic( terrible) he is quite enjoyable.
He actually...acts,in this film. Amazing, but probably par for the course, for "pretty boy" actors. They are not taken seriously by anyone, so when they do turn in a good performance, it's largely written of as some kind of anamoly. He plays a "cad" in this film, with a great fight at the end, for good measure.
Mr Grant, who is a smart guy in real life, have quite a few good roles...when he goes without his manierism....as in the English man who....I think he will bring in the future, more.
Good man.
That yucky baby thing he did with Tom Arnold was the lowest point, in his career. I guess when you sacrifice good judgement, at a critical point in one's career, that's what happens. I feel he was trying to out-Tom Arnold, Tom Arnold...what a mess!!!Nice to see him NOT mugging, for once, in the "Bridget Jones" thing
