It's from Sebastian Faulks' novel "Charlotte Gray." I don't think it's based on a real person and is true only in the sense that people like Charlotte Gray existed and did the sorts of things she does in the film. I haven't read "Charlotte Gray" but did read Faulks' previous book "Birdsong", a pretty good WWI novel.A similar Deborah Kerr film doesn't come to mind, but I wouldn't be surprised if a film dealing with the same subject matter was made during the late 40's-early 50's.

Thanks! I quite sure the name of that film was "Write Her Name With Pride" or similar. I will definitely look up Faulks book. It should be a good read.
Haven't seen it.
