I like this movie too. dvdjournal.com discussed this a long while back, but they don't have searchable archives.
If I remember correctly, the rights to the film's distribution are currently split up between different companies, so it won't come out on DVD unless people sit down and work something out. (I think it is similar to the situation with the Who's very early albums.)
I would guess that there may not be enough of a market for this movie to make it worthwhile to split the baby for the time being, especially if the studios still many easy pickin's to release from the vaults.

Market, that can't be it--it's very cheap to produce dvd's -if you can get the video--why not the dvd?
I remember when cd's first came out, and I couldn't get Joan Jett and Adam Ant albums on cd, they said the same thing, rights to the titles were in litigation because the owner died (something to that effect).
It seems people would work these things out quickly--to make a buck or two? Everyone wins a little vs no one gets thing (for dvd sales).
