The current gossip is that it's being re-cast currently, because their first choice of Ben Stiller "dropped out" on his own...for no apparent reason...he was to team with Danny Devito!Danny is still "in"...and they are looking...rather, hoping...for John Cussack, to pair with him.
Hmmmm Broadway....just like "Sweet Smell of Success"...Lithgow won Tony, only because he tried so hard in the role, not because of any reasons like aesthetic quality.
The industry is so without anything original, they have to scrape the barrel with rehash choices like these. If the public stayed away, in a boycott of these sorry choices, perhaps more aspiring and talented writers would be "discovered". But it won't happen, because of our disposable culture, that seems to, love being shoveled the same garbage, over and over again.
Where are the new David Mamet's and Neil Simon's....starving and working on their scripts, with the hope that, someday, all of this stuff will be over. Let's hope, for Us, they hang in there.
Meanwhile we salivate everytime a show like this is presented. The latest "hit" is "Hairspray"....I thunk we have reached the True Bottom of the Barrel...but wait...there's still the possibility of a musical version of those lost Ed Wood films, huh ?
