I probably need to be more alert in general. With too many things going on it is easy to miss some datails while locking on the insignificant others. We were watching Red one more time. The young lady runs over a dog. The dog cries and she takes her (the preganat dog) to a vet. The doc spends some time with the dog, puts on some stitches and basically fixes it up. The dog is happy and the lady is given a bill - 130 franks. I fall out of my chair.
130 French franks, I mumble to myself trying to get up, that is sort of like... like a single $20 bill... you can't possibly find a vet in the US (even an immigrant one) who would even scratch behind HIS OWN ear for that money!
As I continue crawling on the carpet still trying to get up, I realize that all that nonsense is taking place in Switzerland. It is Swiss franks!!!! Now we are getting someplace. 130 Swiss franks, that is somewhere in the 80 bucks area!
Now, for that sum I surely CAN find a US vet willing to scratch behind his own ear... I pull myself back into my chair and continue my dreamlike watch.
I need to be more alert. Next time I fall out of my chair I might hit that Lee-Enfield with its 17" bayonet attached - it has been lying there for months now. My dog likes to squat next to it. I am curious why...
For insight into the mind of a dog, see the French film "Baxter".
Our cat suffered an attack and needed surgery. Bill: $2,000! Just to look at her: $100. Oh yes, we had to sign over the MasterCard before they did any looking at all.Does this mean animal lovers should move to France?
My Lab was sick, he couldn't keep any food down. What do I do, of course I bring him to the "Vet" and 1200 dollars later he is still sick. At that point I said to the "Vet" that I would bring him home for awhile to decide on the next step, which BTW was a minimum of 2000 dollars. Guess what? during that first week my wife read an article in her Cosmo or something and the article said that some dogs were alergic to rawhide bones. you guessed it we stopped giving him the the things to chew on and he's been fine eversince. You would think the "Vet" could have told me that. I'm just glad I didn't spend the extra $2000.Moral of the story, "Vets" love money.
