I didn't know the Hollywoodization was moving THAT fast.Sounds like Europe is ripe for the Spielberg invasion.
The Ass-Day (S-Day) is near... bend over...

and faster....
Actually I still like Jaw...stand the test of time quite well.
another vote for "Jaws" - Speilberg's zenith, as far as I'm concerned. Never liked "E.T.", "Close Encounters", etc. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was a good comic book for teenagers, but that's about it.
I gave at the office!

Spielberg has made movies (these two in particular) that deal with important subjects and themes. My conflict is particularly with "Schindler's List"- a very important subject, and I hope that the fact that many people saw this movie, and will see it in the future will keep the memory alive of what happened, and what could happen again lest we let our guard down. BUT (you knew this was coming, right?) as a movie, a work of art, it was just another Hollywood Blockbuster, albeit with very good performances by Mr. Kingsley and Mr. Fiennes.
Of course, my taste run more to small films with a lot of character, so YMMV.
in Close Encounter....it is for me a pleasure...but the film sucks..too long....ET is an imature film who has his charm..but did grow terribly old.
Duell was like Jaw, agresssive, raw...
The made for TV movie that was too good for TV!It seems that with a couple of exceptions, Spielberg's best movies are really intended for kids (or at least adolescents). Too bad Hollywood missed the point and ended up lauding him as a "serious artist".
