Watched "The Fallen Sparrow" last night for the first time in 20+ years and found it as engrossing and entertaining as ever. This was the third flick in my mini John Garfield Film Festival. "Body and Soul" was preceded by "The Breaking Point", and "Force Of Evil" is on tap for this weekend. Truly one of the greatest actors to grace the silver screen, Garfield's performances personify the highest form of Film Noir. Too bad we can't have more (any?) films of this quality, in this genre, today. They just don't make 'em like they used to!
I received this disc as a mis-ship from Reel.com. I need to return it, but if it's THAT good maybe I'll keep it with the other Kirk Douglas film it shipped with.
Young, poor boxer (Garfield) fight his way to the top and is swept up in the unscrupulous world of fame, booze, and women. Great performances by Garfield (Oscar nomination), Lilli Palmer, and an evil William Conrad.
