One of my favorite titles is Children of a Lesser God.mp
Follow Ups:
One of many excellent Bunuel films. "Los Olvidados" is another excellent film, and title. (He and Hitch shared a passion for foxy blondes--though little else, as filmmakers).
.
Do movies named after books count? Milan Kundera was the author.
.
Hard to believe that the same director did that film and that Crichton-penned p.o.s., "Rising Sun." Kaufman's other great film was "The Right Stuff."
and yes the three films have such different styles--I agree with you.mp

He's appearing at the local Horror Movie Marathon Oct. 19-20 and hosting a sneak preview of his latest film: "Phantasm V." Bruce and Reg fighting the Tall Man and the Balls together, yeah!!!
Man that was a marvelous show! Bruce Campbell was just made for that part.I used to look forward to every episode. I can honeslty say that was the last show I was a 'fan' of. It kicked the X-Files ass and it got canned while the X-Files droned on and on.
I know TNT was re-running it on Saturday mornings some time ago, but ihve not seen hide nor hare of it in at least three years.
Comet....Trigger with and ego.....brilliant!
.
No kidding:-)
I think you meant Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death and the title's the best thing about the movie. There's also Amazon Women on the Moon.
You're probably right...it's been a few decades since I graced my vcr with that little gem. I still laugh when I think about all those men walking around in a stupor saying "Donahue...Gary Collins" - ahhh, the 80's:-)))
for a foundation to help black folks born without rhythm.Amazon women on the moon was pretty funny as I recall. I need to rent it again.
Those Don "No Soul" Simmons record offers were great. I love that spot-on parody of Queen of Outer Space. Hilarious! SCTV tackled it as 2009: Jupiter and Beyond. Eugene Levy as Ernest Borgnine and Martin Short and Joe Flaherty as Simon and Garfunkel. They bicker and Borgnine threatens to put on his Mennonite clothes and beat them up. Now that's entertainment.
Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutesUnbearable Lightness of Being

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye. - Antoine De Saint-Exupery
Great title, crap film.

Also my nominee for the name of this site during its genesis, but some Inmates ("Ears") wouldn't stand for it.

Anybody remember this piece of crap directed by (and starring) Anthony Newley?
And, seriously, "Secretos del Corazón".Regards
Almodovar:o)

Sure he´s a talented man, and he can do some nice things (films), and he knows how to work with actresses; but I´ve always felt that he rarely goes deep into anything: quite good at shocking some people, what French mean by "epater", but his films don´t stay long in your mind, making you think once and again on the meaning of life, challenging your feelings or thoughts, or moving you in a significant way. He seems to have an eye for what can make people talk about him, and he´s proven to be bold in his first films: that´s something I can´t deny; but I can´t see his influence last long. While there are some really good Spanish directors who, not making so much noise, are able to go straight to the very heart of things and, even working on what may look like pretty insignificant matters, can tie you up to the stories they wonderfully tell, and then make you question so many things...
If you are interested in good cinema, I´d rather advice you to keep an eye on Fernando León de Aranoa: he has only three films made, by now: "Familia (Family)", "Barrio (The Neighbourhood)", and "Los Lunes, al sol" (not an idea about how it can translate, as that simple title, whose literal translation would be something like: "on Mondays, go enjoy sunshining", puts you into the very heart of the existencial situation of laid-off workers who can´t find a job, thus being forced to rest, a situation that otherwise would be most enjoyable, while being like a long sentence to inactivity, thus destructuring their whole lives). If you ever have a chance to see any of them, don´t miss it: you´ll be enjoying cinema in its purest form.
Another very interesting Spanish filmmaker is Moncho Armendáriz, the man who made "Secretos del corazón" (Secrets from the Heart), another film which, working on small everyday things and situations, can move you beyond tears, and leave you with that strange sensation of belonging that makes life´s burdens easier to wear.
There are more, of course. But these two men are worth any pains you take to enjoy their films.
Regards
I didn't care for Tie me up-tie me down--I just included it because of the sexy title!I did enjoy Women on the verge...

I agree with your comments on Almodovar; I would say that he has gone consistently from strength to strength tho' and he really hit the mark with "All about my Mother" which shows a depth of storyline, characterisation and mood that I would honestly not have thought him capable of; he's one of the very few directors extant that I can say I look forward to seeing his next picture
Luis Bunuel is my favorite Spanish director, I will check out the other's you've mentioned as I'm sure they're fine films

What would you do, knowing that you have mere hours left on this planet?
"Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"
Hi,
actually, the first Muppet Movie is one of my faves, I even bought the soundtrack lp, still got it. My fave titles....Apocalypse Now, yeow......They shoot horses, don't they?.......Red tide rising......Behind the green door (never saw it, but it still conjures
up an atmosphere of the forbidden)....Never cry wolf.....the Mouse that roared....2001: A space oddyssey (to a scifi loving teen in the Sixties, that title was wonderfully evocative)....
Agreed, The first Muppet Movie was inspired. I did some work on it and never tire of seeing it. The Muppets know comedy.
Steve
"light the lamp, not the rat!"Some great stuff there.
I will give you 3 brownie points! :o)

I love the first Muppet movie too. You have excellent taste.
Some of the best titles come from literary works such as Thomas Harris's "Silence of the Lambs", Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" or Anthony Burgess's "A Clockwork Orange" all of which turned out to be fine films bearing their original author's titles.OTOH, sometimes a simple descriptive one word title is perfect; several which come to mind are "Memento", "Seven", and "Unbreakable."

This is a fantastic film--on many levels. It addresses so many of lifes daunting mysteries, in an ironic, but strangely light way--hard for me to describe--but it is one you have watch and examine.mp
.
Have you noticed the trend toward one-word movie titles? Writers used to reduce pitch sessions to a single paragraph, but with today's emphasis on the youth market and general dumbing-down of movies, the pitch and very concept has been reduced to a single word. (Memento is hardly a dumb movie -- I thought it was the best film of the year -- so I'll consider it the exception to the rule). Some funny examples.... "XXX" was re-titled "Triple-X" because the studio felt there would confusion as to the rating of the movie. "The Abyss" (okay, two words) partially tanked at the box office because so few movie-goers actually knew what an "abyss" was. And "Beetlejuice" was changed from "Beetlegeuse" because no one could pronouce it.....
"Crocodile" Dundee. (ok, it's 2)
:
Re, retitling of movies: I read someplace that "Crocodile" was put in quotation marks for the USA release so people wouldn't think it was a nature film about a Crocodile!
.
that's when hollywood kept their titles simple.
