Saw "The Ring" last night with about 200 other horror movie fans. The movie starts well and moves along at a quick pace, no long drawn out preliminary crap. There are about 6 "jump in your seat" moments. The acting is quite good and the movie is very well done. The scene with the horse on the ferry is very powerful!! The atmosphere, the music and the special effects (not overdone) are mixed together to really get inside your head. It is the type of movie that you will think about after you leave the theater, and you might want to see it again. The ending is a bit weak, but they are obviously leaving things open for a sequel. On a scale of 1-100 with "The Exorcist" & "The Shining" being 100 I would give the picture a 95. I think that the movie will do extremely well as most people will be scared sh#tless and will tell their friends to see it. I predict the movie will do $160 million in the U.S. (maybe more). I would recommend seeing the movie, but don't take small children with you! There were several at the screening last night and this is definitely NOT a movie for the faint of heart !!!
Follow Ups:
I didn't see it but I doubt that very much!! One reason is not a movie for an all encompassing audience (ie. kids, few folks like horror movies, etc.) That is reason enough for it to do well below your projection IMHO.
