I am a big Mike Leigh fan (thought "Secrets and Lies" and "Naked" were about as good as films get), so after hearing about "T-T" topping the NY Film Critics Poll I thought I'd catch it in Los Angeles during my holiday vacation. Turns out it was released for only one week (before Xmas) in the big three U.S. cities for Oscar consideration and won't be put into general release until Jan. 14. And it will probably be Springtime before it shows up in my podunk Cowtown. I hate winter! Also, I got my DVD of "Run Lola Run" and I think it kicks mad monkeybutt on most of the films in that list. Style over substance for sure, but oh what style!

Went to see "American Beauty" today. "Incredible Mr. Ripley" was the wrong time for our plans, etc.I expected a good film from the reviews. What I didn't expect was an incredibly riveting, moving, violent and memborable experience. I related totally to this film. Perhaps it helps that I'm 50+ and have made some compromises along the way.
"Mr. Ripley" may be a great film, and I want to see it. Let's just say, I want to see "American Beauty" again. It's a rare thing for me to want to a rerun on a film, except for something like Casablanca.
This is a great film in comparison to any from any era.
Dunno why, but that video of the wind-blown plastic bag sticks in my mind. It must be "art".
