versus
"I love it! It's one of the funniest romantic comedies ever."
To me, the first statement is clear, but the second is ambiguous. It begs the question, "Says who?" Is this your opinion or is it to be taken as fact (i.e., a generally accepted notion)?
So I think I'll continue to use "IMO".

to the listener.
"says who?"...you answered your own question...says "I" (implies no one other than yourself.
but I understand where you are coming from, you feel a greater need to distinguish things.
