Yes, it is true. A remake of Bedazzled is in the works. With
Elizabeth Hurley, no less. Jesus, at least the producers could
get someone who can act. Well, I suppose it is debatable whether
Racquel Welch could act (but she did (still does?) have a body). And just thinking about the above makes me want to start ranting
about the intellectual and artistic vacuity of the average
Hollywood producer/executive. Where are the Hitchcocks, the
Kubricks, the Wilders? No wonder I dont go to the movies
anymore. Everything is either a remake, a copy of something that
sold well, or is aimed at the pimple cream crowd. Or maybe I'm
just getting old??? Mike
I remembered Bedazzeled from many, many years ago as a really funny flick. A couple of years ago I found a copy in a rental shop, took it home with great anticipation, only to see that it was a really stupid, poorly made film with a very thin plot. Does that mean I have grown up? Very unlikely to improve with a remake, IMHO. Even with Elle.
I read that the original casting of the remake had David Spade as the Devil and Chris Farley in Dudley Moore's role. They should have cast Elle MacPherson as Lust (now THAT's a body).
I like MacPherson as Lust; and I bet Jack Nicholson would make a
*great* devil. But why remake the thing at all? That's what I
dont understand. Spend that same money on something new and
different. Hell, make yet another action flick to appeal to the
pimple cream crowd and leave the old flicks alone. Mike
Ask an average 18 year-old if they recall seeing a film made before "Star Wars" in 1977, or even harder, what was the last B&W movie they saw. There's money to be made by finding old stuff that can be repackaged and sold to new customers.
I prefer the epics of Francis Ford Coppola, Franco Zeffirelli, Cecil B. Demille, & even John Huston desires an honorable mention.
Well, I certainly did not mean to slight those worthies you mentioned;
it's just that the three I mentioned came immediately to mind. Coppola
and Huston are particularly good, in my estimation (John Huston's
performance in Chinatown is enough to ensure his immortality afaiac).
