In Reply to: Are " Western " a minor genre ? Are the Fredericoīs more worth than... posted by PatrickU on November 05, 2002 at 07:51:56:
My votes for Sam Peckinpah's; The Wild Bunch, and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
As Classics: StageCoach or High Noon
For laughs: Blazing Saddles or The Three Amigos
Most unusual: Silverado (Cast of the Big Chill plus John Cleese), apparently the biggest budget Western ever...

Yes or not...
To me, no genre can specifically be held as the most intellectual, it all comes down to the writing and editing usually... not to downplay directing, acting etc. And I second the endorsement of Pat Garret and Billy the kid. Also "Little Big Man". Excellent in all respects.
But you know the intellectual snobism that curse a lot of people...
In France, rightly so, the Fordīs and consort are in very high esteem.
I think you answer was what I wanted.
So too bad, no discussion possible.
