--Victor, on an emotional level yes--but not the Eastwood one --fine as it was.Ford's The Searchers and Wellman's the Ox-Bow Incident come close--and the undertones of racial inequality and intolerance pushed the boundaries of the time.
While Ford's film slipped through the net,Wellman's was restricted and suffered accordingly.
