Remember that favorite film that was sooo GREAT that you could watch it forever. Then, 10, 15 20 years later it is laughable or totally irrelevant!! Of course, it depends on the individual but, for me, one that jumps to mind is MASH. It had a time and place and beyond that, it reeks. Anybody got any favorite irrelevants??

I still find MASH entertaining but understand where you're coming from on that particular film. To answer your question, I guess The Sting would fall into that category for me. I used to think this was the greatest film ever, but the last time I watched it, it just seemed too full of itself. I guess this should come as no surprise, since it was an Oscar winner.
ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, AMADEUS, A PASSAGE TO INDIA. James
I loved that picture because my dad loved it, One of the most irrelevant but for me, endearing films. Jackie Gleason would have my dad and I in stiches. Haven't seen it in years, I wager it probably lost some of it's charm over the decades.mp

I revisited them recently and don't know what I liked about them or even how I sat through them.
I know exactly what it was for me with Eureka, total lust for Theresa Russel. Having seen the film recently I can say it is terrible otherwise. I watched many bad films to lust after Theresa.
Now I know what it was about those films. Friends and I had been impressed by Subway and Highlander and a girlfriend had a thing for Christopher Lambert so we rented The Sicilian. It looked to be as turgid as Heaven's Gate and we weren't let down.As for Theresa Russell I thought she was good in Insignificance and Eureka also had Rutger Hauer who was cool in Blade Runner. Plus Eureka, Insignificance, and The Man Who Fell to Earth (all Roeg films) were mentioned in the Big Audio Dynamite song E=MC2 which we played a lot at the time.
As a pre teen, I thought these films were IT!
But they do indeed reek :o)mp
