Some judicious editing might have benefitted Harry in this second excursion. Actually, even if the only scene shortened was the last one in the dining hall it might've helped. Oddly enough, my wife thought one of the best visual sequences in the movie could've been omitted to better tighten the film (i.e., the spider sequence in the forest) because it does literally nothing to advance the story. She does have a point, but that is a cool sequence that I wouldn't have wanted to see left on the cutting room floor. Overall, I would give it ***1/2 on a scale of 1 to 5 and we will be buying the DVD.
Follow Ups:
Agree about the last scene. Overall I liked it a bit better, I'd say a 4.
If I was busting my hump waiting for it to be over--think how long it must seem to a kid--8 hours easy . . . I felt the spider thing was a tad too intense for younger kids.
I agree with you, as I found myself checking my watch on a couple of occasions but I enjoyed the spider scene, maybe because it was a little mean spirited for a kid's flick--'fresh meat' was how they were viewed.I'll get this one on DVD too. I think three out of four, or as you said, maybe a three point five out of five is appropriate.
It was worth my seven dollars.
Take care, Chris
