Sorry, Steve, my shop didn't have the Ninth Gate, so my wife brought home boxfull of "repulsion". One of the movies that gave Roman Polanski the reputation for crooked mind (the 13-year old girl came much later...). One can easily see why. I gues the distinction between him and Bergman is that Ingmar always had something else to say besides just delving into the sick mind. One can probably call the Repulsion masterful but tedious and predictable. Once the slope was established, there was no maneuvering, just errr, mindless slide down... Catherine was great. Sometimes one gets worried for the mind of acress playing such role. It is not secret that too often the lovers in the movie became lovers in life. Could the same be said about being mad?Have you seen it?
"Repulsion" was the film that made me see and respect DeNueve in a whole new light. I think "Ninth Gate" gets released in theaters later this month.I was wondering when you were going to bring up Polanski's pedophilia. I'd say he gave the term "child-rearing" a whole new meaning.
You know, you just can't call a pedophile pedophile, not anylonger. I suggest you run, not walk, for your personnel department and request sensitivity training.Speaking of which... after that incident where cops have sadomized a guy with a broken broomstick, the police department sent them through "sensitivity training". It was then suggested, by Rush, I belive, that anyone who needs to be explained that using broomstick in that fashion was not right, probably required a lot more than just "sensitivity training"...
Back to movies, I think for that role she deserves the title "Catherine the Great". But please, no sexual innuendo...
Speaking of Duvall, just wanted to mention how lucky we are to have that wonderful guy around. I utterly enjoyed his performance in Tomorrow. He is simply great in the Lonesome Dove, busy getting his poke, among other things. I don't know if anybody had played more or better American rednecks.
