Clark,The wife picked me up after my exam (MBA) and we saw TT this afternoon.
1. 2 hours and 59 minutes (and twenty minutes of trailers).
2. The first forty minutes drag along (just like the book) and had some in the audience squirming in their seats. Imagine that...story and character development.
3. The battle scenes (especially the final confrontation) are superbly shot and very graphic. The little girl sitting in front of me was clutching her father for dear life when the heads started to roll.
4. Legolas is da man!
5. The film is a great commerical for New Zealand as it showcases the majesty of the countryside.
The most fascinating part of the film is Golem. A CGI character that had most people gasping. Forget about Star Bores...this character sets a new standard.
The "ents" are also pretty impressive as well.
The audience clapped (not wildly, mind you) at the end and ran for the exists.
I liked it less than the first film (too long, and the beginning was dull), but I would say that it was first-class escapism and something I would buy on DVD.
If you want to see a really good film, check-out Nicholas Cage in Adaptation.
