hi Mart,
perhaps there should be a sign at the door: "Trekkies only, heathen need not apply". We saw it a couple weeks ago, and we are talking about seeing it again. If you think THAT was a roast, rent 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy'. This is an old tv mini-series, but it is british,
and satirises everything in it's path. At first i found it offensive, and thought it was anti-scifi; then i realised the author was having fun at everyone's expense. Just a taste: in the first chapter, Arthur Dent, lying in the mud in front of a bulldozer ( they want to tear his house down for a highway bypass ); is persuaded to leave by his friend. They escape to a
remarkably unpleasant spaceship just as the ship blows the Earth to smithereens... ostensibly for an interstellar highway bypass. My favorite character is Marvin, the depressed robot.
... my favorite part was the concept of the improbability drive. & then someone proved GOD existed because ostensibly only GOD could make a universe where his existence couldn't be proven. But, I did enjoy the Earth blowing up. Something 2001 didn't dare depict on film.
Never saw the series, but it was a fun book. Actually 3 books as I recall. I never did get to read the 3rd one.
