Can anyone name these movies - one is about an artist starting with a name beginning with P and a postman who keeps delivering his post every day. It seemed Italian. Very good, not extremely deep or anything.Another was about a cook who is very passionate about his Italian cooking - real Italian, not American etc. etc. this was more of a main stream at least for me comedy but still pretty enjoyable.
Neither movies are phenomenal or anything like that. I just wanted to remember the names.
I saw Kundun recently on VHS. Is is really good on DVD too? Worth owning?
And Victor, if you read this, please tell me where TLA is in Philly. I live in a suburb so I have access and may go there if there is a good movie. For now, I will watch Solaris if I find it. It is in English right?
I think TLA might nave it. They have pretty good Tarkovski section.
it also achieves greatness in the pursuit of boredom; you could read the book, that the movie came from, about as quick; and actually be entertained ( the book is a classic )
Love that Lem!

***it also achieves greatness in the pursuit of boredom; you could read the book, that the movie came from, about as quick; and actually be entertained ( the book is a classic )He-he-he... some would call in meditation and thoughtful analysis... he-he-he... don't you agree Banionis was great?.. he-he-he... and all those vacuum tube voltmeters... I recall some of those models, had them, used them, those funny scopes on their sides with slow traces going up, up, up.. endlessly... and she was beautiful, you can't deny it... but I guess you are not much into Zen... me neither, but I loved the Solaris... but Geez, I was much younger then... married with no kids... Tarkovski was the very in thing among the intelligencia and the whole city went bunkers... I guess you probably not going to like his Mirror then... people tend to lump it with 2001, but they are way too different... but forget the Mirror, go straight to Stalker - now, that is something that will put even a Buddist to sleep... he-he...
1. "Il Postino".2. "Big Night", starring Tony Shaloub and Stanley Tucci? A very entertaining film.
Quick and correct
He is right, of course, on both counts. I would just attach another one to the second title. There is another movie about a super-dedicated cook - and that is The Chef in Love - highly recommended too, and with significant dose of Russian/Georgian spice (pardon the pun). The TLA has several locations around Phily so you might be able to find one nearer to you than the one we usually go to - the one on the 4th St - one block north of the South St. It is extremely well stocked. We used to go there almost every week, but then discovered a store in the armpit of Delaware (hard to believe but true) that has been keeping us busy for a while. They, however, have some holes in their inventory, so the TLA shadow is looming on the horizon again...
Petew might have information on their other addresses.
