To monocle wearers, this is far below the "guilty pleasure" horizon. But, I found it hugely entertaining and fun. It is a very formulaic tale of an "upstart" youth going down south on a band scholarship and the ensuing conflicts. What really surprised me were the overall production values and the balance between the dramatic storyline and the actual "band action" on the field. I didn't feel bogged down in total sappiness and was fascinated by the half time performances of the bands. Yes, much to the horror of flute tinklers, it is a "feel good" movie.Sure, you can predict frame after frame, but it is well done. Again, another "bargain matinee" that had a happy ending.
