In Reply to: On a lazy ( but cozy ) Sunday afternoon, I was wondering... posted by patrickU on January 12, 2003 at 10:23:11:
I suspect if I were indeed THAT close, I would be dreaming of painkiller... and the more the better.Morbid, man...
Follow Ups:
I would not choose ANY pain killer ( only if I had pain, I would ) on the contrary I would try to be as lucid I could...
But is death the end ?
I would be sharing some conversation with friends and family.mp
as pain ? Are the two absolutely connected ? I remember seeing
the Dead catacombe in Palermo...Well some did seems actually quite not beeing torture to the near end...
Is death the big tabou of our time...
Morbid but lucide.
No it is not, but I suspect enough pain will cause ANY man long for death... and good dose of painkiller works great in that respect. The death is no a taboo, it is just an unpleasant subject.
and it makes death so much more unpleasant, by way of a direct comparison.Think of the fairy tales people would have to tell the young ones in order to help prepare them for a life filled with trials at every turn. We wince at them now, but they were very neccessarily gorey.
People had to have litters of children in order to be assured of carrying on the family name. A small cut could be the end of you. Having a child was one of the biggest risks a woman could take. Wow, we have it so good, in both the area of quality and quantity (science has made "survival of the fittest" a thing of the past) that death has become a surreal topic. People take pain killers and anti depressants like candy, to avoid thinking about their own mortality. In some cultures, mortality is embraced, and considered beautiful.
Now children cry if they can't have the latest plastic trend toy...big change...
mp
Keep in mind, these are "sweeping" generalizations :o)
Harder the life, nearer is the death wish ? maybe...But the fact is one of the biggest taboo in our day ...is death...everybody is healthy & rich & and has plenty of deodorant...for body & soul.
