A US fascist government sanctions a cross-country road race in which drivers score points by running over various pedestrians (different point scores for running down children, women, the elderly and handicapped, etc.). David Carradine starred as the legendary Frankenstein, multiple winner of previous Death Race competitions. Sylvester Stallone played Frankenstein's arch rival, an over-the-top Mafia gangster named Machine Gun Joe ViTurbo. Paul Bartel directed, and his wife, Mary Woronov, plays a cowgirl competitor in the race.
