Hi,
Dark Blue World is a good movie that follows a Czech pilot's life.
It starts just before WW2, and takes you through that war, and into the decades that followed the war. The sound is exceptionally good. The aerial combat is what I call meat and potatoes. 99% of the pilots in WW2 were poorly trained and were poor to fair in quality. so combat was quite straightforward; which is also why over 99% of them died.
Piece of Cake had fancier flying, but DBW is more representative of what actually happened. That feeling shows up in many places in the movie.
I think I will watch it again before I take it back. Which is something I never do.
Follow Ups:
Glad you liked it. It is what I consider human movie - not one about events or machines. You might also rent Kolya by the same director - a bit formulaic, but fresher than most stuff you will see "at the theater near you".
Hi,
I think my friend liked it; hard to tell with him. He likes to let people know when he's dying; that's about it. Funny how this movie makes me think of the millions of lives ruined by that war (and communism). At the end he is told the guards are going to beat him; I suppose he died from it. But I wasn't sure.
