Having recently suffered from the usual subtlety of Oliver Stone's direction in "Any Given Sunday" (Stone puts the Truth in bullet form and shoots you in the head with it), I've gotta ask: What's your favorite football film? Mine is "The Longest Yard". Any votes for "Paper Lion", "Semi-Tough", and "North Dallas Forty"?
it was the 70's, Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson, not sure how it would be today, but i liked it at the time
"The Longest Yard" with out a doubt.MiKe
The old TV movie "Brian's Song".
Shatranj Ke Khilare (pronounced Khilade). Chess playing nawabs (nobobs or princes) while their princely states are ..... watch it. Indian movie. Very good I thought. Hard to find I guess, i have not seen it in this country. But since we are talking about sports...
nice remake of a classic, that is even better than the original ( in my
ever so humble opinion ).
Warren Beatty leads the Rams to a Superbowl victory? A fantasy to be sure (I was born and raised in L.A. and watched the Rams fade season after season). Can't believe that since they moved to St. Louis, they got a league MVP quarterback who was bagging groceries at eight bucks an hour for a living two years ago and they are actually favored to win (we'll see). That story is more improbable than any film version.Loved watching the misfired assasination attempts by Dyan Cannon and Charles Grodin(?).
Movie or was it a docu about Pele (Edsen Arantes de Nascimento - I may have name spelt wrong)
Missed the Pele documentary. Saw Pele in that awful "Victory" movie with Stallone and Michael Caine.
...fencing seems to be perhaps the most neglected one in America. Too bad because it is also one of the most demanding and graceful sports.Strain as much as I can, I shall only recall one movie about it. It is "By The Sword" with Eric Roberts and Murray Abraham. Not a great movie, but thoroughly enjoyable.
Tim Roth does some decent fencing in "Robb Roy" I'm not up on fencing but it looked pretty good to me :)MiKe
