hi,
i found gattaca lame, and thought the main character was the killer.
My friend (who knows almost nothing of sci-fi or murder mystery) insists
this is good scifi, and that the Director did indeed commit the murder.
What do you think? Do you really think a man on the edge of retirement, with no history of violence; would get psych over one his THOUSANDS of launches? Or the kid, with his history of violence, with this one launch his sole purpose in life; is the logical suspect?
What do you think?
.
Good
That was the least satisfactory thing about the movie. I think a much better ending would have been for his brother to discover conclusive evidence that he really did commit the murder, but too late (ie after the rocket had lifted off). Our suspicions would then have been confirmed and he would have also have gotten away with it, which leads to some interesting soul searching as we were rooting for him to succeed and beat the system. Just my 2 cents worth...-Joe.
The DNA analysis should've indicate which person was predisposed to commit murder, but the film's theme was to counter that deterministic view with the tag line: "There is no gene for the human spirit". Well there very well may be gene(s) for the human spirit. The problem is that the assays are a bitch. And you can't prove a negative (there I go quoting mtrycrafts again).Personally, I think the brother/detective could have done it to help his brother.
using the old means, motive, opportunity-
a) the kid was in the office that day, i don't remember the brother being there, but i may be incorrect
b) motive ( going in reverse order, bass ackwards is a habit of mine )
It is theoretically possible, but, as one real life detective said, 'can you name somebody who did that'. Sounds implausible to me.
c) means - this is actually quite interesting, bashing a guys head in the office is not a carefully premeditated crime, not in the office. It sounds like an explosion of rage; which points the finger at you know who
