It starts like an jewish comedy...so did it ends.
Everything conventional, no one gonna be hurt, in the best possible word, the story is meager like a fish bone.
The players are half way charming.
Nothing for intellectuals.
No killings.
No explosions.
I had one hour and forty minutes fun.
But soon forgotten.
But it is worth the trip.
Follow Ups:
I was kind of irked after buying it and finding it wasnt anamorphic! Common, get with it. Its the 21st century!
Are you representative for form over contend ?
Of course, every body wants the best quality possible of the copy !
But it was hardly some thing new for our talk...
Gives us, the name of good films & directors.
We watched the DVD last night. Wondered what the fuss was about as it was totally predictable and quite tame. On reflection, I think many people enjoyed the now rare experience of a movie that was straight-forward, noncynical, comfortably humorous, had no foul language, no urinal scenes, and with characters that were normal, non-nuerotic people.Perhaps its success will cause producers to realize that so many contemporary movies fall on their faces because they're overreaching.
"My Big Fat Greek Alien Matrix"
The urinal scenes !
My view of this film is very akin to yours - enjoyable, but not very substantial. The conundrum is why did it do wo well in the U.S. market (over $200 million!)?If you believe that the U.S. market wants big, comic-book type films (which I do), then this picture shouldn't do that well. If you believe that the U.S. market wants superbly crafted, artistic films, this film would do better, possibly, but still not that well. And other romantic comedies haven't done that well (I don't think even "Four Weddings and a Funeral did close to this kind of business). So this one leaves me scratching my head.
"Well, a satirical piece in the Times is one thing, but bricks and baseball bats really gets right to the point. "
It's thrust covered EVERY ethnic group in America. Everyone felt a common bond to it because it is soooo family. It could have been named "Big Fat Ethnic Wedding" and it would have still done the same. I thought it was a relatively poorly done film from every aspect, but it nailed everybody's family and relatives. Everybody relates. It will be interesting to see how "The Guru" fairs with its more "brand name" cast.
In my first post i already mentionned ...no explosions, no deads...I think a lot of people are tired of this kind of boum boum... and a slow moving picture with a little lightness of beeing and romantism, can not do wrong AND Tom seems to have an lucky hand at the moment....
Honey, when's it going to get going?Where's the car chase?
Does anything happen in this movie?
My wife and I watched "Greek Wedding" on Friday night, and the next night we went out to our local Greek restaurant...Guess what they were cleaning up with?

Hi,
this is also a story about America; about Americanisation. As such, it is a small celebration of American life, and American values. Sometimes, life is like that; and that makes the movie a little special.
Yes, it colorisation, of the truth...hehe...Dear Late....
Yes,
it does happen. It's also a small miracle, because it happens instead of violence,or prejudice. And because it's an old plot, it gets dismissed. So yes, it's an old story, but it's also one I am part of.
Yes, I can remember the times when when mixing was not at all welcome...Today it seems some how a part of another world...
maybe not in the Mormon church, or some other obscure religions....
By Jove, we do not have THAT anymore !
With berries and a little whipped cream. As you say, fun at the time, but not substantial. We watched it last night.I was tempted to try a little Windex on a rash on my arm today, though.
I can not tell where I try it on this forum....
There is kind of hush, all over the world...
