supreme performances by all involved. The movie had everything: comedy, drama, silliness, cross dressing, love, ambition, art, homosexuality, but it didn't loose itself in all that the way one of Ed's pictures would have, ironic. I adored Bill Murray's performance.
KP and I watch that film regularly, and quote it often "I don't fee so gooood eddy." "Well ya look just peachy to me!" Johnny depp plays such convincing fringe element types. His acting has in Ed wood has inspired us to search out his other films (such as Dead Man, Edward Scissorhands) and we have yet to be disappointed.
Wow, "when life is stranger than fiction" "and you couldn't make this stuff up" are two good quotes for Ed's life. (KP and I also read the book that inspired the movie...excellent read)
We have a debate when it comes to Ed Wood.
KP says he was a man driven by his art but was just not good at it.
I say he was a man who liked art but was driven by making a fast buck...a true artist would have a sense of subtlety...espesially in their chosen field. I think he enjoyed picturing himself with notoriety and fame...the same way he idolized Orson Wells the man, more than his work. Who will know for sure though?

I would say he was just a guy who LOVED movies (at least the way he was portrayed in the film). The look of awe on Ed's face as he's shooting his own crap, is just priceless. It's like a little kid who is just amazed at everything.
This film just draws me in every time. My wife just rolls her eyes every time she sees I'm watching it (same with a lot of Woody Allen movies). I think Depp may be one of our best young actors, although he's made some sub-par stuff. Have you seen Donnie Brasco or What's Eating Gilbert Grape?- other good performances from him.

In his earlier works, there is an artistic aesthetic that does not appear to be motivated by profit ("Glen Or Glenda").
His later works are just hack jobs made for profit (e.g., "Orgy of the Dead").

  He settled for anything, bigger is better. He could have scaled down the horrible props and made a half way decent film. He replaced lagosi with a chiropractor!
  I think plan nine, was his attempt to become rich and famous, not express himself artistically....for apparently he had no real cohesive vision.
