I'm about halfway into the 3 DVD set...So far, it's been pretty faithful to the book, but the costumes are almost too distracting in the first part of the story. This is less of a problem when they get into the desert with the stillsuits.
A noble effort, and very different than the Lynch version--this one seems more campy than dark, especially in scenes with the Baron.
Follow Ups:
Wait a minute... there's a 3 DVD set now?
Is the third dvd just extra stuff or does it actually stretch to 3 dvds due to added scenes? :)
I don't know how much they added, but it's around 5 hours total time...
Alright then, so there's a good 30 minutes extra.
Wonder if it's enough to track it down. :)
since I never saw it on the Sci-Fi channel when it originally aired...
Have had the DVDs for quite some time & haven't had more
than a couple hours to take a look. Did see most of the
series on TV though.
so I did a marathon watching...After seeing the whole "Director's Cut," I must say that it got better as it went into the Maud'Dib part of the story. Much of it was hit and miss, especially in terms of acting and effects, but as a whole I think they did a fine job considering the audacity of trying to put this story on the small screen.
