I saw this here in L.A. at the Nuart Theater. The visual quality was very disappointing, and I was thinking that the problem was not the HD video original but a VERY mediocre transfer to film. I'm thinking that when (if?) this makes it to DVD we'll see just how nice it can be. Even so, that scene in the grand ballroom was amazing. Valery Gergiev (sp.?) conducting, I believe the credits said, Glinka.

I would occasionally get a glimmer of how could I thought it COULD look, trying to see through film (yes, FILM, from the transfer) grain, apparent transfer underexposure, and lack of sharpness (I kept thinking , "What IS this, SUPER 8? Bad 16mm release stock?). I just hope that when/if it makes it to DVD someone will have the determination and means to have some real pros do it, and provide a direct copy of the hard drive file to do it FROM.
