I went in expecting some Brazilian Tarantino film, maybe trashy, derivative entertainment and not much else...

But damn.

I can't think of a single fault, except for maybe some overquick editing in exactly one scene. But that'd be if I had to come up with something. It's really a GREAT movie, in the superlative, stands-with-the-best films sense.

About time, too. Great movies have been in very short supply as of late. Witness 'Spider,' another Cronenberg movie that should be excellent, has everything in place to excellent, and still manages to be sterile.

City of God deserves all the praise it gets.
