I bought that Criterin DVD many weeks ago, but kept delaying the viewing.Whether due to Dmitry's post, or simply because we temporarily ran out of more recent films, I pulled it out.
I will not try to write a review of that classic - you can find many well written ones everywhere. My question was whether this old film would even make sense today, perhaps some forty years after my last viewing.
Well, it does... as any tru classic should. Sure, you will find some moments dated in their presentation, but that is true of all old films.
This film is a very personal event for us, but for all of you who have not seen it, it IS a must.
Tonight - its sister film - Ballad of a Soldier.
