Was looking forward to a really good film. Was sadly disappointed. The story seemed to lag to the point of pointlessness. And how Brody got the Osc is beyond me. I was in no way drawn into his limp-eyed performance. Was also shocked at Roman's set recyling. I'm not daring to say this was in anyway a "bad" movie--it just didn't live up to expectation for me. Maybe I've been jaded by "Schindler" on this subject.

Schindler??????? Bleahhhhh!!!!!! A bunch of kaka under maple syrup!
i think you have been jaded by too many films where the main character runs around waving his finger to the nazis, standing up for something, basically acting like a hero.i think the pianist wants to show how for many, it was an experience of waiting it out in drab, locked rooms, growing hungry and limp-eyed over time, and avoiding death by luck (the random executions, being moved out just at the right time, the colonel, etc.) more than by his own actions. there's no philiosophizing about the meaning of life, no heroics, no honor, no shame, no morality being preached - the point of the story, and what the film celebrates, is that this man lived through it.
who survived alone with some help from others. And, I really don't feel I've seen that many films with holocaust victims giving the finger to the nhazis. I thought it was a weak film. I suppose Roman wanted to make a statement based on his childhood experiences and decided this particular view hadn't been used yet. I think the holocaust should be a part of everyone's middle-school education, but I don't think Hollywood should roll over when a non made-for-tv-movie on the subject hits the big screen.
