Oh, I love that film. One of my favorites along with Kwaidan (well, you might not like this unless you're a Japanese ghost story freak), Red Beard and Taboo. Have to dig through more Asian films. I didn't find CTHD that bad, but with that one you have to remember it is a Chinese fairytale like Ever After is a retelling of Cinderella.
Speaking of Asian films, Kurosawa's Throne of Blood should be out soon, and anime fans might also want to check out Patlabor WWIII and the Mini-Pato special. One part of WXIII should appeal to folks here... detective Kusumi is a vinyl junkie and appears to be running valve monoblocks in his stereo system ^-^

I've seen it and it was Ok.But what I really want to say is that this must be one of the most enjoyable forums. I've followed the other forums on this site and once in a while posted comments, as the guy you wrote the Hawaii 5.0 speaker article (single drivers). But for the most part I have been turned off by the negativity. This site is refreahing.
I just got into movies this year--actually Chinese/HK/Taiwan films. Went out and purchased about 40 films.
Good to hear from you.I've loved the Asian cinema of the past 10 or 12 years, and I've been expecially impressed with Chinese films...some really good stuff.
I saw The Emeror & The Assasin in a theater, but watched it again last night. I really liked it, and will probably hunt up a DVD of it.
Taboo was just on last week, either on IFC or Sundance. Don't think Kwaidan has hit cable, although I'd like to see it again.
I'm thrilled Kurosawa is coming out in good editions on DVD. Some theaters (Boston, for one) have been doing a Kurosawa retrospective. Alas, I've had to ocntent myself with Seven Samurai at my local art house theater...it was still great to see it on the big screen.
I loved CTHD. You hit the nail on the head...it's deliberately fantastical, a mytho/poetic exploration of a very familiar Chinese fairy tale/legend. Blaming it for fantasy elements is like criticizing LOTR for having wizzards.
Hi, Yes, I vanished for a bit... between work, my old PC falling over dead and being scatter-brained, I haven't been on the net much lately, but I'm like the flu and just keep coming back every so often ^-^Really? I just saw "Beat" Takeshi's Kikujiro on cable last night, but I usually manage to miss things like that. Got any recommends for Chinese films? (yes, I also like B films like Peacock Prince, Saga of the Phoenix, Ringu, Daimajin, Haunted Lantern, Moon over Tao, and also chanbara stuff like Zatoichi and the occasional well done kung-fu/Shaolin flick).

Zhang Yi-Mou's "The Road Home" (released about 2 years ago in the US) is very enjoyable. For a sword fighting Chinese movie, the "New Dragon Inn" is excellent.Cheers,
