and the character wasn't that deep or interesting. The daughter's in-laws to be, seemed to have more going for them in the way of developing an interest. It tried to be a happiness, but fell short. You need to develop some emotion from the main character be it love, hate, or something.I don't think people knew what to take from this film. My sister liked schmidt and found the in-laws to be low class. I thought the film showed schmidt to be a clueless putz and the in-laws were charming and sincere. Who knows, the lack of direction is a flaw.

That could have been Jack without Hollywood. Without Hollywood, there wouldn't be Lara Flynn, it would have been his on screen wife--for real!

and real....can you imagine her courage. I'm sure she wasn't clueless to the fact that she would be ragged on tremendously for her efforts, and she put the "art" first. Gotta admire that. You see that kind of bravado in men quite frequently, nice to see it in a woman, in a maintstream picture.:o)

This film wanted to be desesperatly an anti-Hollywood film.It wanted to be unconventional.
It was his failure.
Still the J.Nicholson role was from master .
