We'll see if this time I actually get to see Donnie Darko - last time I rented it, I never had time. In the meantime, a much needed Bergman fix, "Autumn Sonata". Not exactly his best work, but a definite refreshment from the likes of "Two Weeks Notice", et al. Liv and Ingrid directed by Ingmar - should be a materpiece, but I was left a little unfulilled. Maybe one has to be a mother or daughter to fully connect. Still, pretty amazing how good a "near miss' is from a master.
"I've been accused of vulgarity. I say that's bullshit."

Ha ! Still alive !
Every Ingmar is worth to look at. Landmark,
All of them are must see's. They all offer something to think about, that is for sure. Even the weaker ones - like the Virgin Spring. Or is it not really weaker - just not as deep as others?
It is only when the crafted pictures and dialog ( or lack of ) are so strong that it goes far above our logical brain, deep into you subconscient, and then open in an unknow language to us...
This is so strong, that analysing is unnecessary and almost impossible.
Some of his films are not intend to be seen twice. One view is strong enough for the rest of your life...So for the " Virgin "....
I will have an second look at it....
Paradox only for the one who do not undertsand.....
Bergman's films indeed leave long lasting impressions. Often I can't recall the details, but the atmosphere, the mood, the tension is still here.Inthat vein... what do you think of Tarkovsky's Sacrifice? Too derivative?
So do I, no wonder that is one of our things we have in common.
Well, I must say to my shame that Russian films ave generally not a great...how should I say..sex appeal on me..of courseI have seen the classic...They may are what Hich for you is....But I am willing to learn.....
