The interminable closing sword fight? Depp's "pinching" of Dudley Moore's "Arthur" role? The absolute lack of chemistry between the romantic leads? The repetition of many, many scenes? The lifting of the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" chest idea? C'mon, 2 hours and 20 minutes? HALF that length may have done the trick, but the "editor" took away that possibility.
A veneer of cool cast over a very large pile of summer dog doo doesn't alter the basic substance.
Did you laugh once? Maybe I'm taking this too seriously, but $100+ million is a lot to spend with so little to show.
I ain't seen one decent Hollywood movie "entertainment" yet this summer.
Follow Ups:
Don't tell me you liked Dustin Hoffman as Blackbeard better? Yeaach.I thought Pirates of the Caribbean was entertaining from beginning to end. Yes, there was a lot of repetition with all the various sword fighting, but the visuals were outstanding including the sets, photography and special effects.
Johnny Depp gave another over the top of weird performance as Captain Sparrow. Just watching him in that role, including the make-up job he had, was worth the time and money spent.
You have to remember - it's a DISNEY MOVIE. Action packed with a syrupy sweet "happily ever after" ending. Once you go into it with those expectations, the movie is fun.
