Or are blind & deaf & and have other calmities ?
He is a bad singer, not witthout charm, and he had a good role in the film, through his acting range was very limited....if you have an look at the making of you would have understant the relation with the director of this film..he treat him like an apprentice...and that is what he is..and one whose own limitation as been reached forty years ago.
You have been blinded by the " French " thing/ chic / snobism.
Follow Ups:
Hallyday was GREAT. Understated performances are difficult. The eyes and the voice must carry the emotion, the pacing, and hold the interest of a jaded, violence-addicted, and semi-deaf audience. He did it. I could not take my eyes off him.
The character was, like Brando's in "Last Tango...", a middle-aged man in full realization of life's fragility.
The scene in the bar when he was barreled into, and let it slide, was brilliant. Can you imagine how Hollywood would have handled it? Remeber the scene in "Shane" when Ladd took on the entire gang w/his fists (Alan Ladd, for god's sake!) and the farmer came in to help him? Imagine that scene now with the teacher helping Hallyday?!!!
No, Patrick. It is YOU that have Hallyday baggage. You cannot separate a very mediocre rock musician from his acting---which in this case was brilliant. See it again and concentrate on him.
Johnny " performance can only bbe " understated " as he is not capable of something else. The role was suited to him, but he could have done the opposite.Ladd ? of course I can..Ronald favorite film....
I discute this film with Victor. I was then better encline to it as I am today, particulary for the pseudo performance of Mr. Halliday.
Mediocre musician and more than that for acting. A propos acting how many films have you seen with him ?
At the moment there is an envistigation on him for rape, that may eventually happend two years ago, in my home town of Nice...One of the criminalist in charge has been expelled because of bribery, just last week.
I hope this experience will made a better actor... ( sardonic )
Non mon vieux, I never like him, and never will.
Believe me, You are wrong.
Ton impossible ami.
P.
the only thing I remember is the fact he was in it, which is probably a good omen?
He may be a bastard in "real life" and have his problems with women (Polanski, Errol Flynn) but he IS a talented actor.
Of course, we can agree to disagree. (Wine consumption put off---merde---until tomorrow: my wife was ill yesterday and wants a full day of recuperation before the splendors of the Riesling.
My wish for a quick recovery to your wife.
It won´t change your mind that in France is is not regarded as an actor...but mainly as a singer and thar very highly...from his fans.
run for political office. Look at Ahhnie: iron pumper; actor; governor?
Actually are only fond of " Les guignoles ( " some kind of muppets show ") Imagine the " sosie " of Johnny beeing President de la Republique......haha..
