Is all the new chopper stuff sucking you in? Great TV. I watched almost a full day and night and still didn't get enough.
Follow Ups:
Also loved the Biker Builder Challenge series on the Discovery Channel.
I enjoy the trifecta - Monster Garage, Monster House and American Chopper. I hope Discovery Channel gets back to that lineup soon. There's only so much Teutle you can take in one sitting. These shows seem to have been inspired by the success of Junkyard Wars on TLC. A previous favorite of mine, JYW has lost its appeal since Monster Garage. The reworked show - with two regular team captains selecting a new team from scratch on the day of the build - seems like a desperate attempt to inject some conflict and develop these two team captains into popular "working class hero" characters like Jesse James. It isn't working. If the producers of JYW wanted to adjust the show to compete with Monster Garage, they should have extended the build time to two days instead of just ten hours and maybe given the teams a small budget to buy some good parts that they can't scrounge from the junk. Rushed as they were, the last two builds resulted in crap that performed so poorly that I'm not even going to bother watching anymore.
They should give teams of mechanical engineering students a full semester to build something. Give the students $0 in cash, but allow them to raise/spend as much as they want. And get car companies to donate brand new vehicles. Winners get scholarship $$$ and internships.Example:
objective - build a javelin launcher
donated vehicle - 2004 Ford Explorer, courtesy of Ford Motors ("Ford Motors - built Ford tough!!")
deadline - 4 months
budget - student fundedI think that would be highly entertaining.
My cousin competed in a lot of design challenges sponsored by car companies. They built an electric Suburban that hauled serious ass. The battery pack alone cost them $120k. They scraped up the $120k+ by building dynos for auto shops. Would have made for good TV.
Sounds Good...
Had a friend who was an A&P mechanic who installed a turbine engine in a porsche. Fast, but a little loud.
the Teutils were there with their bikes. My buddy said big Bill is somewhat of a jerk in person and his son is a pretty nice guy--just like the show!!
I like Jesse James too, although he's a bit more introverted relative to Paul and Paulie.
I've been watching the Teutles from Orange County Choppers for the past few months. A good show. Strange to see the new guys yesterday, but they were equally as impressive.I loved the Commanche bike and the NYC FireFighter's bike. Those guys are visual and mechanical artists, for sure.
Considering the popularity of the shows, and the interesting world of bike making, I can see in the not to distant future a documentary/movie made on the subject. Especially if like last nights marathon challenge of who can make the best bike. (Or should I say, who made the best 'crowd pleasing bike'
