Yup, even Madonna thinks "In The Realm of the Senses" is one hot flick based on the quote from her on the front of the DVD. But I was trying to stay away from recommendations with hard core sex. BTW, there is a book called Eros In Hell by Jack Hunter that is about "sex, blood and madness in Japanese cinema". It features the scene from Realm with the knife in hand on the front cover.Watched an E! channel documentary on Roman Polanski this week. A Roman quote: "Eroticism is when you use a feather to arouse; pornography is when you use the whole chicken".
...Irezumi? I thought it was incredibly erotically intense - and perhaps as subtle as it gets.I watched that Polanski story too. So, he did it with a chicken too? Them flower children...
The doccumentary was quite interesting. I remember seeing that movie with a big ugly guy sitting in the lawn chair with Roman dancing around - but can't recall its title - do you remember? I suspect you do... And I have to agree, the Repulsion must be on anyone's short horror film list.
I also found the appologetic statements by some of the Hollywood softies quite interesting. I remember Mia behaving completely differently during that Woody Allen's own version of your obligatory mid-life escapade. Then she reminded me an ancient Greek warrior...
All in all, a very eneven career of a tremedously talented guy.
