Everyone of those acts on the new outakes are one of my favorites. But I hesitate to plop down $70.00. Anyone seen\heard it?
Follow Ups:
The outtakes aren't all great (i.e., some performances appear much more dated than others), but there are many remarkable ones, and the rareties combined with the care taken by Criterion mastering the old footage make for an excellent DVD set overall.
I saw her about a dozen times during that period. Thought she was great.

I always use current prices via the comparison charts from DVD Price Search; it's a really cool site, IMHO. Daily listings of coupons, price reductions and specials are posted at the site and on Mondays & Thursdays a list of new upcoming titles provided by internet vendors is posted there along with the price comparisons for each new title. I'll provide a URL link; take my word for it, this site is worth bookmarking and checking out regularly!Cheers,

i also hesitated at buying the monterey pop festival set because of the hefty price, but man oh man, it is really good. some of the music feels dated, but the good stuff is damn excellent.the outtakes are as good as the stuff in the film. in the outakes, the byrds footage is my favorite. the hendrix concert is my favorite overall - you see a guy on the cusp of making it huge, but he's still got to work it to wow the audience. young, hungry and fresh. there's a certain positive energy in the hendrix perforamnces and throughout the entire monterey festival that is missing from the woodstock and altamont festival films. i don't know how to say it any better, but all the footage, including the outtakes, really gives me a feel-good, positive vibe. the only thing is that you'll wish it had more footage of all these bands because, other than hendrix and otis, you only get one or two songs by each act.
you can find it for cheaper than $70 if you dig around, or rent the discs through netflix. is it worth the price? i can only say that i rented the discs from netflix and wound up buying the set because i wanted to see a lot of the performances again.
I'll try Blockbuster to see if it can be rented. Netflix; the turnaround was too slow after 9/11.
